Day 65: Exhausting Day!

Today is Columbus Day!  Did you know that when he "discovered" the Americas he actually thought he'd reached Asia? It was another explorer, Amerigo Vespucci, that eventually figured it out, so I don't know why we don't have "Amerigo Day" or some day to honor him! There, now you've had your history lesson for the day.

At school we are madly preparing for a music presentation on Friday, the trip to New York City next week, "Cupcake Wars" the week after that, and the Rainforest Event that's scheduled for November 12. It's crazy. Really crazy. So after our regular classes this morning we switched things up a bit like we did last week and I took the two younger groups to rehearse for the music program while the older kids painted and worked on the rainforest project.

What's exciting to me today is that my little first-graders (who are all five-years-old, by the way) are almost completely through the English alphabet and are excited to be reading! Most of them are getting really good at letter identification and saying the sound the letter makes in English, too, which is a huge deal! We're on the last leg of learning all the letters: how to write, name, and pronounce them. Plus that, we're through the first list of sight words, which is another big deal! I'm so proud of them and what they're accomplishing!

Hannah is working hard in school on several projects. She is currently doing research on the manatee as part of the rainforest project, and on the country of Romania for her history class. She has come a long way in her patience and diligence at school and I'm so very proud of her!

Tonight we packed more things to prepare for our move. We did laundry, cleaned, organized, and tried to catch some of the Tigers' game!!!!

Thank You, God, for a day that was FULL!!! Thank you for growth.
