Day Five: Working At School

I was awakened this morning by the crowing of roosters and barking of dogs at 5:30. I decided to put my earplugs in - the ones I was too tired to get out of bed to get last night - so I could finish my sleep. The next thing I knew Hannah was hollering at me, "Mom, breakfast is ready!" It was 7:00 or so and she had woken up (from the dog and rooster noises), made coffee and oatmeal, and had it all ready for us. It was sweet of her, but I was definitely not ready to get up. She had had a little bit of trouble making the breakfast and coffee, but we muddled through and then got ourselves ready to go up to school for the morning. She was meeting some of the students and I was meeting with the rest of the staff.

We then worked at school for a while, Hannah painting artwork on desktops for Abbie and me trying to get my classroom ready. When pangs of hunger struck, I realized I was not only hungry, but also very tired. We went home, had a quick lunch, and took a much-needed two-hour nap! Plus that, we stayed home for the rest of the day. In other words, the day was pretty uneventful, except for the unexpected surprise that the video on Skype worked tonight for the first time, so Stan and Jessie got see us!! LOVE Skype!

So today I want to show you what our house looks like. It belongs to Nadeen, who is with family in the States until the end of October. She was gracious enough to allow us to stay here for next to nothing in exchange for taking care of her home, her cat, Punkin, and her two lovebirds. We also have full use of her car!

To get to the house you drive up a very long and steep hill known as Mount Resaca. The house is only a little more than half a mile from Abbie's school, but the drive makes your ears pop! Seriously.

This is the front entrance that greets us when we come home. It's tucked away behind beautiful landscaping of typical Caribbean/tropical trees and plants.

When we step through the door, this is to our right. It's a lovely little closed in porch (the birds are off to the left of the door with a table and seating. We sometimes eat here.

Coming into the main house, this is our living area. There's a ladder straight ahead that takes you to a very nice little loft area, complete with a full-sized bed!

From that same spot, if you look to the left, this is our kitchen, where Hannah and I prepare all of our meals. Around the corner and across from the refrigerator is the stove, just in case you were wondering!

As you walk through the main living area, you get to the main bath area, which is Hannah's bathroom. If you were to continue through that blue doorway, you'd go into another room where the shower and washing machine are tucked out of view. You would also have a door leading outside to the deck that takes you to Hannah's room.

Here's Hannah's room, complete with a ceiling fan and mosquito netting around the bed! As you can tell, it's generously sized, so she has plenty of room to knock around in there with Punkin.

Stepping back out of Hannah's room, continue heading around the back of the house and you'll see what our view is and our wonderful deck. It's where you get the best breeze and Nadeen obviously enjoys plants, so it's a very relaxing and beautiful setting.

When you get to the other side of the deck, the double doors at the end are the entrance to my room. It is complete with its own bathroom, so I'm pretty self-contained. The room is even larger than Hannah's so I feel very pampered in there!

This is looking at the house from my bedroom door. This is the door that would take you back into the front  porch area, so you have basically completed a big circle.

We are very blessed to be here in this lovely home for three months! We are settling little by little into a routine and getting anxious about starting school on Monday. We've had great moments and tearful moments, along with everything in between.

Thank you, God, for this place and for helping us begin to feel a bit settled. Thank you, too, that today I got to take a nap and the Skype video worked!
