Labor Day in Culebra

Guess what!!! Labor Day here is pretty much like Labor Day there! Except you guys in Michigan had a chilly day and it was about 86 degrees here. Also, much like every teacher in the state of Michigan, I was working on lesson plans for the week!

What I really liked about today is that because it's a holiday lots of my family was gathered in one spot (my house in Michigan.) And we Skyped! It was SUCH a lift to see everyone and talk to everyone and have Dharia say to me, "Mimo, I'm your Mini!" I got to see Laura's pooch-out from our newest growing family member, too! Yay!

Hannah and I went into town today after stopping by school to pick up a few things because yesterday I told her we'd get a Frutti, which is like frozen fruit on a stick! I love the pina colada flavor and she likes the strawberry, but since they only had pineapple, we settled for that.

We took a little walk as we enjoyed our frozen confections down to one of the town's docks so she could see what it was like. There were people at the end of the dock under the canopy; some doing some yoga while another group was loading up their boat with beer and food. Yet another vessel belonged to the Coast Guard, and we struck up a conversation with those guys for a few minutes because an "almost nephew" is looking to join! It was so cool to see them in action, even though they weren't really doing anything. It just struck me that on this one dock there were three groups of people who could have all been on different planets with the diversity of their activities! It was kind of weird...

Anyway, I was hoping to be able to sew a bit today, but it seems that this school stuff has become a mountain to me (I know I'm probably being way too anal about it, but there's no one here to stop me) so I'm continuing to work on it. Hopefully what I'm doing now will pay off in later weeks, though, because I'm trying to get things set up in a system the kids can do on a weekly basis. At least that's the plan!

So today I'm very very thankful for the Skyping I got to do with Jessie and with most of the rest of my family in Michigan. I'm also so glad I got to talk with Hope on the phone and touch base with lots of friends on fb. Thank you, God, for modern technology that enables us to stay connected!!!
