Day 27: First Piano Lesson...and a Few Phone Calls

Thursdays are the day I have the fewest classes to teach, so I'm done when the kids go to lunch.

Today I taught my first piano lesson on the island! Anyone who knows me at all is aware this is one of the passions of my life, so it was something I was really looking forward to. This is a person who's from the States and retired here with his wife. He has a keyboard and wants to learn to play effectively with his left hand! Having and student who knows what the goal is and is motivated is always a plus! So we had our first session and it was great.

After stopping at the post office and picking up two boxes filled with amazing things for the kids, I headed over to Mamacita's for some "me" time, which I've made my practice on Thursdays! Wouldn't you know it, while I was there, a dear friend called saying that she had been thinking about me all day. It was so wonderful to be able to talk with this friend I miss so much, especially since she has a daughter getting married this weekend and another one having a baby any day! One of the things I shared with her is how lonely I feel because of being in a new place, not knowing the language, not having any friends here, and all that. She listened to me whine as though she hadn't another thing on her mind...what a great friend.

When it was time to pick up Hannah, I dropped off the boxes of gifts at school and eagerly opened them, and then Hannah and I headed home. Shortly after, she realized she had forgotten her spelling list so I took her back to school, where Abbie and Lisa were finishing up after-school tutoring. A student's mom was picking up her child as we were leaving and we got into a little conversation, which was really nice.

We returned home, Skyped with Stan, ate dinner, and the phone rang. I didn't recognize the number, but upon answering it, it turned out to be the mom I had the nice conversation with. I thought to myself, "Oh, no, I hope I didn't do something to upset or offend her or her daughter!" As our previous conversation was replaying in my head, I slowly realized that she was inviting me to get together with her and another woman! I was overjoyed, surprised, and pleased as punch!! The possibility of a couple of friends! Yee-haw! We set up a tentative plan and boy, am I ever looking forward to it! Hannah will be able to hang out with her kids while we moms hang out!

Okay, so this was JUST what I needed today. Another thing about me that is pretty easy to pick up on is that I get energy from relationships with others. That phone call was right on and not a moment too soon! I would say this was a God moment, for sure!

Thank you, God, for the piano lesson and the phone calls today. I really needed them!
