Day 32: Candidates for Road Kill...and USPS

I just realized that for the past couple of days, I've forgotten either the "Day...." part or the title, or both. My thinking is that I need to begin my blog earlier in the evening while my brain is still functioning.

There is something about the air, the climate, or some other unknown entity that makes me wake up earlier (except for yesterday...) and get tired and sleepy much earlier here. Last night, while trying to carry on a conversation with a friend back home I realized that I probably sounded totally sauced. Only I had nothing to drink - not even my typical glass of red wine (which I haven't had in quite some time, by the way.) She eventually told me I needed to go to bed, so I don't think my state of consciousness escaped her. This morning, though, I woke up at 5:30 and was raring to go!

Hannah and the cat, Punkin.
There's absolutely no reason to add this picture
today...I just felt like it.
On the way down to school, I was thinking about how back home every time I'm on my way to school I'm quite cautious about the deer. Since our area (at home) is one of those known for a high number of deer/car accidents and we routinely have several hanging out in our yard, my guard is always up. On the island, though, the risk of hitting a chicken, some ducks, a cat, a dog sleeping in the middle of the road, or even a horse is higher than the probability of hitting a deer back home on Carter Road. As a matter of fact, there is a horse we currently have to drive around on the road between here and school. To my amazement, however, what should run across the road in front of us? A deer!!! I almost laughed out loud! I had been told that people brought a few deer here years ago to start a population of them and they obviously have managed to survive (sort of like the cockroaches.) It just stands to reason that one of them would find me!!

Today's school day was pretty much an on-schedule kind of a day with kids who were just squirrelly, similar to what I would have experienced in the fourth week of school back home!

After school, though, the post office brought us gifts from friends and family back home! Oh, how I LOVE the post office on those days!!! E and L, thank you so much for the beautiful pictures of your beautiful faces!!! Loved your letter almost as much as I'll treasure the photo. M, thank you tons for the Rooibos tea and the pictures of your adorable two! That girl is growing so fast... I already fixed (and savored) a cup of the tea and after Hannah's in bed, I'll have another!

So today I'm thankful for seeing faces and seeing the handwriting of loved ones thanks to the US Postal Service and for those who take the time to drop a note through any form of media to remind us of your care, your love, and your prayers. Thank God for you!!!
